The ASAAC
Programme and
Standards
The Allied Standards Avionics
Architecture Council,
ASAAC, was established to counter the increasingly demanding issues of
complexity, obsolescence and affordability in avionics systems. The
tri-nation consortium (representing the UK, France and Germany)
undertook an extensive programme of work which in 2005 culminated in
the delivery of a suite of interface standards. With a strong focus on
system harmonisation and integration these standards aim to support the
goal of enhanced mission and operational costs at lower lifecycle costs.
In 2005, the ASAAC Standards were
issued in the UK
as interim Def Stan's. The ASSC has recently led a review of these
standards with representatives from the MoD (DSTAN, TES, DSTL) and a
number of UK suppliers (BAe Systems, General Dynamics, Westlands, SELEX
SAS). The review analysed the relative merit, content and considered
uptake of the extant set of ASAAC tandards, with an aim of assessing
the suitability of the interim standards for receiving continued MOD
sponsorship. The review concluded that the only standard bearing any
influence was Def Stan 0074; the Proposed Standards for Software.
Given the above, the MOD intends to
withdraw
sponsorship of other ASAAC standards following a notice of intent
period of 3 months. This notice period is given to allow comment and
constructive feedback of the MOD's intention. The table below
summarises the sponsors position.

Details of ASAAC 1 Day Conference 2005
On 30th of November 2005, ERA
Technology hosted a one
day conference and workshop on behalf of the ASSC and the MoD at St.
George's Court London. The meeting was well attended with ASSC members
from BAe Systems, General Dynamics, Thales, WHL, Aerosystems, QinetiQ,
Tornado IPT, TES etc. The following presentation were given: To
align with feedback
on interim Def Stan 00 74, part of the meeting was set aside to gauge
UK position on STANAG 4626. |
